My name is Zachery Aymon Farghaly. My professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Politics from New York University and a Master of Arts in Creative Writing, Publishing and Editing from The University of Melbourne. During my Master of Arts degree from 2018 to 2020, I tutored students of all ages in Melbourne. Through this experience, I established my own teaching philosophy that I found most advantageous to breeding both interest and aptitude in literature.

I tailor my lesson to my students’ academic needs, interests and cultural background. What I mean by the latter is: if they are of French or North African heritage, we can choose to read French literature as a starting point (Camus). If they are of Chinese heritage, we can read Chinese literature (Ghuanzong). Even for books I haven't read and/or cultures I haven't had exposure to, I'm eager to explore these with my students through literature.

It is my hope that the student comes to the lesson willingly, of their own desire to improve their skills. I understand that parents want their children to be adept at all subjects, but my approach is a bit different. If they come enthusiastic, it is my truest honor to teach them.

Before the lesson, I ask both parent and student some questions about what the student hopes to achieve in the lessons and how I can best assist. My favorite book to teach students of year 5-6 (age 12-13) and above is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Though a somewhat difficult book, if they have read The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis or the Harry Potter series before, I trust them to be able to cope with the formal writing and we can learn new vocabulary as we go. For younger students, I often start with The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. This is, in essence, the way I tutor.
